Bananas are very rich in fibers and create a feeling of satiety in the stomach. Starch contained in this delicious fruit reduces the appetite. You have certainly noticed that the more ripe the bananas are, the sweeter they are. This is because the enzymes they contain are transformed into starch. The more ripe the fruit becomes, the starch is converted to mono and disaccharides, for example sucrose, glucose and fructose (simple sugars). When starch turns into simple sugars, the banana is ripe and is easier to digest from the stomach. Numerous studies, however, suggest that ripe bananas lose some of their minerals and vitamins.

On the other hand, a recent study found that when the banana is ripe, it contains various antioxidants and has anticancerogenic properties that have a positive effect on the human body. When the banana becomes completely yellow and dark spots appear on it now, it already contains a substance called TNF (tumor necrosis factor) which has the ability to fight malignant cells. The study shows that fully ripe bananas are more useful in the fight against cancer. Scientists have also found that yellow and mature bananas are eight times more effective for strengthening the immune system compared to green bananas.



Bananas are a great source of tryptophan – a compound that our bodies use to create serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps improve mood, promotes relaxation, and makes people feel happier. In other words, bananas are a good weapon against depression.
